CBD Bioavailability
Bioavailability refers to how much, and at what rate, a substance gets absorbed in to your bloodstream. Understanding the bioavailability of CBD will help you determine how much you need to take, and in what form, to ensure the most amount CBD actually ends up in your system. Otherwise, you may not feel the desired effects. There are many ways of taking CBD and the bioavailability of differs from each way you consume CBD. Let’s explore the different ways of getting it in to your system.
CBD Oil sublingually
When taken sublingually (underneath the tongue), CBD oil has a sublingual bioavailability of 13%-19%, with some studies putting it as high as 35%. Holding the CBD beneath your tongue allows it to be absorbed by your sublingual gland, through which it can enter the bloodstream and begin working its effects. While not quite as efficient as the inhalation method, sublingual administration of CBD still produces effects fairly quickly, and can be felt from approximately 5- 20 minutes .
To maximise the amount of CBD absorbed it is advised to hold the oil under your tongue for around 60-90 seconds. By it swallowing it too soon, or applying the drops above your tongue rather the underneath it, you wont be absorbing as much CBD as you’d like and offers a significantly lower bioavailability.
